HEART ATTACK
 Signs of heart attack

The symptoms of heart attack vary in persons. Some persons experience mild symptoms while the symptoms in others may be severe. Unfortunately for some, their first experience or symptom is a sudden cardiac arrest.

Symptoms to watch out for include

   1.       Sudden dizziness
   2.       Fatigue
   3.       Indigestion
   4.       Cold sweat
   5.       Feeling of discomfort in the arms, chest which may be extended to the back, neck or jaw.
   6.       Abdominal pains
   7.       Nausea

Causes of a heart attack.

As it has been earlier discussed that a blockage in the artery supplying blood to the heart will result in a heart attack, it is, therefore, important to know the conditions that can bring the body to this point.

   1.      Age.

The research revealed that as a person increases in age, the more likelihood of having a heart attack. This is because as one grows older, the blood vessels gradually become flexible not making it easy for blood to flow through to the heart.

   2.      Gender.

In the past, a heart attack is usually seen as a man’s disease because of the activities of smoking. Recently, women are having equal chances of becoming victims of a heart attack just as it applies to men. This is usually after women reach the age of menopause.

   3.       Family history.

In a situation where a heart attack can be traced to some persons in your lineage, it is important to take necessary measures such as having regular check-ups and also speaking with your medical expert about it.

   4.       Smoking.

To quit smoking is to reduce the chances of being a victim of a heart attack. Smokers are about twice likely to be victims of a heart attack compared to persons who are not smokers or have never smoked.

When you smoke, you gradually damage the lining of your arteries and this leads to a build-up of fatty substances known as atheroma. These fatty materials gradually reduce the width of the arteries.

The carbon monoxide present in tobacco reduces the level of oxygen in the blood. The heart will have to work beyond the expected rate to be able to supply the adequate oxygen needed for the body.

Further, the nicotine present in cigarettes also stimulates the production of adrenaline by the body. This makes the heart beat faster than usual and also increases the level of blood pressure.

   5.       High blood pressure.

This is an important factor that must not be put aside when discussing the warning signs, causes, and way out of a heart attack. This is because the symptoms of high blood pressure cannot be easily detected physically.

On the contrary, it does not stop the damage it will cause to the body. Uncontrolled high blood pressure will keep straining the heart and in the long run, result in a heart attack.

   6.       Unhealthy lifestyle.

A study showed that in 2012, over 700,000 deaths arising from a heart attack was due to poor diet. The excessive consumption of salty, processed foods, fats, sugary foods and low consumption of vegetables, fruits, whole grains, etc keeps robbing people of the healthiness of their heart.

   7.      Diabetes.

Uncontrolled diabetes can cause severe damage to the nerves that control the blood vessel and heart. This can end up in death especially in adults.

   8.       Overweight/Excess weight

Over-weight people require more blood to supply the required nutrients and oxygen to their bodies. This means that the heart will have to work harder than normal to achieve this.

Remedies to a heart attack.

This article is aimed at identifying the warning signs, causes, and way out of a heart attack. The signs to check out for have been stated above so also the causes but it also important to know the way out.

   1.      Avoid smoke: Abstain from smoking and other smoke sources. This will help to promote the health of the heart.

   2.       Exercise: Regular exercise will help to improve heart muscle function. Taking a walk of about  30minutes daily will help a great deal.

It will also help to reduce the body weight thereby reducing the stress on the heart.

   3.       Healthy diet: Consume less of foods high in fats, sugar, and salt and consume more foods like fish, vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and beans.

   4.       Reduce stress: Rethink on how to minimize stressful activities if you are usually engaged in stressful routines.

In summary.

Despite the fear heart attack might pose to its victim, though it’s life-threatening heart disease, yet it can be well managed and its victim will live normally.
